Information About Rec Basketball for Youth
**Sign ups for 2010 are October 25 – November 6**
AGE GROUPS : To enroll a child must be 5 years old by November 1st, of current year to play and not turn 15 before January 1 of current year. 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, boys league & 9-10, 11-12 girls league. A child’s age as of January 1st of the coming year will determine their age group. All age groups may be coed. We do offer a girl’s only league for 9-10 and 11-12. Sometimes we may need to combine these two age groups to make a girls league. If we do not have enough participation for a girls only league they will be combined with the boys.
We must be notified in writing by the first day of the season by the parent if a child is not playing in order for you to receive a refund. We will not give refunds after this date. It is the parent’s responsibility to let us know if your child is not playing, not the coach of their team. In all sports if there is not enough participation to make a league we will refund the registration fee only. (Insurance and Late fees are non refundable.)
ADMISSION TO ALL GAMES: There will be an admission fee for each game. The fee is $1.00 for 6 year olds and older. There will be admission tickets given to you at the gate for you to keep for reentry into the games and for you to use if you need to go to another site that night for a different child’s game. The child playing in the game and two coaches per team are allowed in with no charge. There will be a list at the gate of all players and coaches for the teams.
SKILL’S EVALUATION
The skills evaluation will be for ALL players.Skills evaluations will be held at the REC CENTER Gym. All participants need to attend the skill’s evaluations. Boys and girls should attend.
COACHES INFORMATION: Everyone wanting to coach or help with a team must fill out a coaching application, a background check form and provide a copy of your drivers license. You must be 18 years old to be considered a coach and attend the coaching certification clinic. You must submit to and pass a background check. All coaches must fill out a coaching application for every sport every year. The Coaches meetings will be posted on the information sheet that we give out with registration.
GAMES: The teams usually have two games per week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are the days during the week they could be playing. Games are held at local schools and the REC Center.
PRACTICES: Practices will be held at the local schools and the rec center during the season. They usually start at 5:30pm or later. A coach is welcome to practice outside if he desires. The practices will be held in the city your child goes to school whenever possible. It will depend on what schools are available to us to use.
SEASON:We usually begin to play the first Saturday after Christmas Holidays.
TROPHIES: The team may elect to purchase end of season trophies. This is optional and the cost is the responsibility of the parents.
UNIFORMS: The team may acquire a sponsor to purchase uniforms. If a sponsor is not found the parents are responsible for the cost. The registration fee does not cover the cost of the uniform. Parents may help to find sponsors
FEES: What does it cover? The fee covers the officials for the sport and any equipment needed and other expenses associated with the sport. Uniforms are not included in the fee.
SCHOLARSHIPS: We give 50% off the registration fee for children who qualify for free and reduced lunches at school. We must have a copy of the letter from the school approving the child for free lunches at the time of registration for you to get the discount. We must have this letter to verify to our auditor that the discount should have been given.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE: Accident Insurance is available for $7.50 per child. You do not have this insurance until it is paid. The year runs (October 1st to September 31st). This is an optional insurance. It is a supplement to any insurance you may already have. More information can be obtained in the Athletic Office.
