Track & Field
Ages 7-14 are eligible to participate in this sport. A child’s age as of December 31st of the current year will determine their eligibility. They must turn 7 by this date and can not turn 15 before this date. They will practice basic fundamentals and have one or two local meets to determine entrants to the District GRPA Track Tournament the third weekend in April. Then 1st place finishers will advance to the State GRPA Track Meet the first week of May. Scholarships for half off the registration fee are available when a child receives free or reduced lunches from the school. You must provide the approval letter from the school each time you register to receive the discount.
This program needs parent participation. There are many running & fielding events in track and to host a successful meet you need many volunteers. Scoring, raking, measuring and timers are always needed. Uniforms are not supplied. You may have a fund raisers to get uniforms.
Once the participants advance to the District Meet donations of water, food and fruit are needed for the Meet. The meet is an all day affair usually in Hinesville or Douglas, Ga. We will need parents help to keep the children rested and at their best for each of their events.
Anyone having one of the all star track uniforms is ask to please return it to the athletic department at the rec center. These uniforms are needed for the coming season.
Volunteer coaches are always needed in TRACK. Please consider being a youth coach. The children will play in the city they live and go to school. Being a youth coach involves teaching the sport, organizing practices, communicating with the parents about practice times and game times, finding a sponsor to cover the cost of uniforms, and appointing a team mom. The team may want team pictures and end of season trophies which is optional. If the team does want these things the parents are responsible for their cost. To coach you must fill out a coaching application each season and pass the background check. See the athletic staff for more information.
